Ištrauka

The treaty of Versailles was the treaty that marked the end of World War 1, five years after the asassination of the heir to the Austria-Vengrian throne Franz Ferdinand. It was signed by the Allied powers and Germany in 1919, June 28th. However this treaty hasn’t done only good to the world, as it was one of the causes, that sparked the World War 2. There were many factors that lead to Hitler’s rise to power, and one of them was the humiliation of the German Nation right after the end of WW1.

One of the ways that the Allies humiliated Germany, was the way the Armistice of Compiegne was singed. On Monday, November 11th 1918, the Allies and Germany signed an armistice at the forest of Compiegne, that signaled the end of WW1. The terms, that Germany had to sign, were mostly created by a French Marshal Ferdinand Foch and were very harsh. Germany had to withdraw their forces behind the Rhine river, surrender their war equipment, including warships and aircraft. Moreover, Germany had to let go of their war prisoners, while getting none of their own in return. The German blockade, established in 1914, wasn’t called off during the armistice, until 1919, leaving Germany in need of food and other important supplies. Furthermore, Germany was required to give up Rhineland to the allies, as well as their other regions later on, to the Allied occupation.
