Film review of “V for Vendetta”
Ištrauka
I always think that I am not a big fan of sci-fiction movies or films with elements of fantasy, so it’s a bit strange, that one of my favorite movies is “V for Vendetta”. It is based on comics of the same name by Alan Moore and David Lloyd. This adaptation, directed by James McTeigue, left me a deep impression after many ordinary, slightly disappointing movies.
Frankly speaking, I don’t see so much fantasy here, expect some scenes and the fact that the action takes place in futuristic Great Britain. What I like most about this film, that the fantasy here is different, interlaced with symbols. All scenes that look illogical or unreal have symbolic meaning. One of the most exciting film scenes when V meets with his creator. V was shot multiple times in this scene, but he was still alive because “Beneath this mask, there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask, there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof.” This thought is repeated in the film for several times - in the final scene where we see already dead Valerie and her girlfriend, Evey’s parents, Gordon Dietrich and the little girl with glasses. We see them real and alive because each of them represents the image of freedom and self-expression that cannot be killed by the government.
