Bridget Jones’ diary and About a boy comparison
Ištrauka
When I have chosen to compare the novels Bridget Jones’ diary and About a boy the first thing that caught my attention was that both of them had been written by an English writers Helen Fielding and Nick Hornby. They have written different novels over the years, but Bridget Jones diary and About a boy really do have a lot in common.
Primarily, in both novels the scene is set in London and their main characters (Bridget and Will) are in their thirties. The difference is that a novel by Nick Hornby is written in a third-person point of view and according to Arminta Wallace from “Irish Times” “it is a novel about the awful, hilarious, embarrassing places where children and adults meet”1. In contrast, a novel by Helen Fielding is written in a form of a diary, which covers a full year of Bridget’s life, but in the same way is a fairly hilarious book about the year of an adult woman. This literally genre of womanhood is also known as Chick lit.
