Newly Discovered Old Media
Ištrauka
I have to admit, I have never listened to radio plays before. Frankly speaking, I did not even really know that such a thing exists. In Lithuania, radio plays are not popular at all. If you are willing to listen to something similar in Lithuanian, the best you can find is "Evening Fairytale" in the LRT or “Radio book” in the “Pūkas” radio station’s program. However, these are two incomparable things. The “radio book” is a one man’s monotonous reading of a passage from a book. A radio play is a whole theater, performance, with sound effects and live characters, with different voices, but without a visual solution. And, in my opinion, it's great! I'm really fascinated by this genre, and at least one Tom Stoppard’s work so far – “Rosenkrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead”.
