Notre-Dame Cathedral is a medieval Catholic cathedral in Paris, France. The cathedral  is among the largest and most well-known church buildings in the world. The Cathedral of Notre Dame was begun in 1163; construction continued for another 200 years. Notre Dame Cathedral is properly called Notre-Dame de Paris (Our Lady of Paris). Notre Dame is still a functioning Catholic church and the site of many important religious and  ceremonial events. Notre Dame attract about 13 million visitors each year. The Notre Dame Cathedral is the most popular monument in Paris and in all of France, beating even the Eiffel Tower.
